Ingredients
- 3 medium apples
- 1/3 cup sugar
- Juice from 1/2 lemon
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 can Native Forest Organic Classic Coconut Milk (398 ml)
- 1/4 cup plant-based milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste
- 2 tablespoons Let’s Do Organic Cornstarch
For the Caramelized Top
- 1/4 cup sugar
How to Make Apple Crème Brûlée
- Wash the apples and slice them in half from top to bottom. Using a spoon, carefully scoop out the center of each apple to create a small bowl, making sure not to puncture the bottom. Set the apple bowls aside and reserve the apple flesh.
- Add the reserved apple to a pan over medium heat along with the sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Cook until the apples are fork-tender.
- Pour in the Native Forest Organic Classic Coconut Milk and plant-based milk and continue cooking for several minutes. Using an immersion blender, blend until completely smooth and creamy.
- Stir in the vanilla bean paste. Add the Let’s Do Organic Cornstarch, whisking quickly to prevent any lumps. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens into a creamy custard.
- Spoon the custard into the prepared apple bowls. You’ll likely have some custard left over, which can be poured into small ramekins for extra servings.
- Cover each crème brûlée with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4–6 hours, or until completely chilled and set.
- Once chilled, remove the apple crème brûlées from the refrigerator and sprinkle a generous, even layer of sugar over each one. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crisp.
- Let the sugar cool for a minute to create that signature crackly shell, then grab a spoon, crack in and enjoy!
